From the Summer Olympics to junior basketball, the world of sport and its many stakeholders has been rocked by COVID-19. The virus has completely changed the business of sport, not just the competition side, with a catalogue of sporting events either indefinitely postponed, cancelled, or run with small to no crowds. Community participation, recreation and mental health have all been affected, leading many to consider the wellbeing of participants and fans. Recovery will be a rocky road, with Dr Stavros suggesting sport is scarred, potentially irretrievably if swift action is not undertaken.
In this session, Associate Professor Con Stavros, explored how marketers, sports bodies, teams, athletes and competitions can bounce back from COVID-19, what challenges lie ahead, where the opportunities are and how the whole crisis is impacting upon community sporting bodies.
