Celebrating graduate Jyoti Kundu

Jyoti’s life as an RMIT student was filled with participation in various clubs and communities, and she embraced each experience as an opportunity for growth, enrichment and inspiration.

Across Jyoti’s RMIT journey, she was committed to experiencing all that the university had to offer and involved herself in a huge range of extra-curricular activities to enrich her student life.

Alongside completing a Masters in Artificial Intelligence, The SSCC (Student Staff Consultative Committees), Activator Community, RUSU (RMIT University Student Union), MSA (Melbourne Student Association), open days, industry showcases, and career fairs were just some of the extra-curricular activities that Jyoti was a part of.

This multifaceted engagement truly showcases Jyoti’s dedication and enthusiasm beyond academic involvement.

“These experiences not only allowed me to connect with fellow students but also enabled me to actively contribute to community-building initiatives, fostering a strong sense of belonging within the university,” she said.

Jyoti found each activity an incredibly rewarding experience offering different opportunities for networking, leadership development, personal and professional growth, and the chance to make a difference in the RMIT community.

The roles of Future Edge ambassador, student concierge officer, and teaching assistant were particularly meaningful to her with the significant impact she had on the student community, assisting them in navigating their career paths.

Jyoti discovered that these experiences also gave her the opportunity to see her hard work in class come to life.

These extracurricular activities also offered a platform to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, strengthening my skills and confidence.

Passion and determination during tough times

With Jyoti’s endless involvement in clubs and communities, it is no surprise that her main challenge faced at RMIT was juggling all these commitments and managing her time to meet the requirements of a university student.

However, she took these obstacles in stride and ensured she engaged in meaningful work that inspired her passions and ultimately Jyoti was proud in her ability to manage through tough times.

“This experience has taught me resilience and adaptability, and I take pride in how I transformed the situations into valuable learning experiences. I'm happy that I learned so much from these challenges, and they have contributed significantly to my personal growth,” she reflected.

Words of encouragement

Informed by her wealth of university and community experience, Jyoti had some encouraging advice for new students starting at RMIT.

“I would advise you all to embrace the challenges, step out of your comfort zone, and seize every opportunity that comes your way. Your university journey may not be without hurdles, but it will be worth it.

Open your heart and mind to new experiences and perspectives, and never stop believing in your ability to achieve greatness.”
