Standing out from the pack at Essendon Education Academy

Essendon Education Academy (EEA) students Chloe Clark-Cain and Alice Shellie have snagged grad roles in the Essendon Football Club’s (EFC) Member Services team, following the completion of their studies.

Having commenced the new roles as Member Services Officers in November, the recent graduates are already off to a flying start, working with inbound and outbound calls and emails throughout the week and assisting on a weekend gameday in the Essendon member hub.

“It has been quite a smooth transition,” said Chloe.

“It’s always nerve wracking your first few days coming into a new role, but as I had made the effort to network during my studies, it has made that transition a lot easier because you are seeing quite a few familiar faces,” Chloe said.

Fellow graduate Alice backed up Chloe, expressing the value in the two of them working together following their studies.

“It was a really great feeling to know that your friend is with you, and that we get to do this journey together,” said Alice.

Making the most of their studies

Alice and Chloe studied the Dual Diploma of Business and Diploma of Leadership and Management at the EEA.

Co-designed by RMIT and EFC, the dual diploma is delivered on site at ‘The Hangar’ in Tullamarine, embedding students in a high-performing sporting environment to learn leadership and business skills.

“You get a lot of gameday placements which is always really exciting,” said Alice of her studies.

“I think what was most valuable was definitely the AFLW placement. I was working with all of the membership team, so I got an insight into what that job is really like and get to see if this is something that you really want to do later on if you are successful in getting that role.”

Chloe found joy in getting hands-on experience with event planning.

“Personally, I really enjoyed working with the events team, it’s something I have really enjoyed doing prior to coming into the EEA, so getting that hands on experience with that team has been amazing for me,” said Chloe.

Taking their next steps

In their newly started grad roles, both are looking forward to new opportunities.

“I’m looking forward to making more connections with people and figuring out all the departments that Essendon has,” said Alice.

Chloe echoed these sentiments.

“I want to pursue making more connections, the more people you know, the better. Learning from so many different people, take learnings from a couple of other people and add those tools to your belt is only going to help us more in the future,” said Chloe.

Kirstin Hannah, Essendon Education Academy Manager, praised the graduates as they began their new roles.

“Chloe and Alice have consistently demonstrated professionalism, reliability and a willingness to learn, grow, and support EFC operations throughout the year,” said Kristin.

“Their approach to coursework and placement strongly aligned with our Club values, and combining this with their previous customer service experience, excellent communication and their passion for EFC made them strong candidates for the Grad Role.”
