Taking Flight: Graduate Tran Thai Soars Through RMIT’s Bachelor of Aviation Program

Tran Thai’s journey in aviation began with a dream, but her story is about much more than piloting planes.

Having recently completed her Bachelor of Aviation (Pilot Training) at RMIT, Tran’s ambition to become a Commercial Airline Pilot has taken flight, and she’s ready to bring her skills and enthusiasm back to her home country, Vietnam.

Tran’s love for travel and exploration began early, but it was her encounter with a Vietnamese female captain that transformed her interest in aviation from a dream into a calling.

“From a young age, I was captivated by the world of travel, my heart soaring with the thrill of exploring new horizons,” she shared.

“Inspired by a Vietnamese female captain, I realized that my passion for aviation was not just a dream but a calling. I wanted to be part of a world where the sky is not the limit, but the beginning.”

Throughout her studies, Tran discovered that piloting requires not only skill but also a deep respect for the ecosystem that makes aviation possible.

“While flying is undoubtedly exhilarating, my journey through this degree has illuminated the intricate tapestry of aviation, encompassing Air Traffic Management, Safety Investigation, and more,” she explained. “This holistic understanding has deepened my respect for this field, teaching me that aviation is an interconnected ecosystem where safety is paramount.”

Her university experience has been marked by a supportive community that helped her through both personal and academic challenges. Joining student clubs allowed Tran to build connections that grounded her during her demanding studies.

“Engaging with student clubs and societies has enriched my university experience profoundly,” she said.

I’ve forged lasting friendships and created cherished memories that I will carry with me forever. These connections have not only made my time at university enjoyable but have also fostered a sense of belonging and community that I will always treasure.

Despite her passion, Tran faced significant challenges, particularly during the early stages of her training. Learning to navigate a new environment was daunting, especially with unpredictable weather affecting her progress. However, her instructors played a crucial role in guiding her.

“The initial stage of my training was incredibly challenging; every aspect was new, and progress often hinged on the whims of the weather. However, I was fortunate to have incredible primary instructors who believed in me,” she reflected.

“Their unwavering support, encouragement, and invaluable advice—both in flying and theory—guided me through the toughest moments, teaching me resilience and determination.”

Now that Tran has graduated, she’s ready to pursue her dream of working as a commercial airline pilot in Vietnam.

“I am filled with excitement as I prepare to return to Vietnam and embark on my journey as a commercial airline pilot,” she shared.

The thought of contributing to the aviation industry in my home country fills me with pride and anticipation for the adventures ahead.

For future students and graduates, Tran offers valuable advice.

“Dreams are beautiful, but they require hard work to become a reality. Embrace every challenge, remain steadfast in your pursuit, and let your passion guide you,” she advised.

“My time at RMIT has helped me grow into a more mature, disciplined individual who understands myself better,” Tran shared. “I’ve discovered my strengths and learned to embrace challenges, shaping me into the person I am today.”

As she embarks on this next chapter, Tran looks forward to the adventures that await her in the aviation industry.

“The thought of flying and exploring the world fills my heart with joy. I am eager to embark on this incredible journey, where each flight offers the chance to experience new cultures, meet new people, and embrace the endless possibilities that lie ahead.”

With her wings now ready, Tran Thai is set to soar into the skies, bringing her passion and dedication back to the communities that first inspired her.
