Despite initially being unsure about university, Business student Marlon Holloway has taken every opportunity during his time at RMIT to get ready for a career in tech.
Now employed at Amazon as a Business Development Executive in Sydney, Marlons journey both inside the classroom and out saw him rapidly rise as both a leader and business professional.
He said he was drawn in by the flexibility of the degree, which allowed him to closely pursue his passions.
“I chose to study the Bachelor of Business for a few reasons," he said.
“As someone who was massively uncertain about university life, the ‘choose your own adventure’ model that the degree offered was incredibly inviting for a starry eyed, and unsure prospective student.”
"I was also attracted to RMIT’s approach to industry specific learning, via industry-integrated projects my learning was contextualised within the reality of the workplace.”
At the end of his first year at RMIT, Marlon joined Uber in a part-time capacity as the youngest hire in the company, eventually becoming a Tech Project Manager.
During his time at Uber, his team launched and grew Uber Eats Grocery and Retail in Australia and New Zealand.
"The business grew rapidly, with a lot of support from business leadership; some key highlights include onboarding key partners like Coles and Woolworths," he said.
"It was highly challenging and engaging work environment, but throughout applied time management and some late nights I was able to manage!"
With extensive experience in student volunteering, much of Marlon’s leadership development has come outside of the classroom where he led RMIT’s Snow Sports Club for three years.
“I’m a huge advocate for student club experience and student volunteering more generally,” he said.
“As Snow Sports President I found my people, made core memories and had fantastic adventures that I’ll cherish for life.”
