Celebrating graduate Skyla Isaacs: Turning a passion into a profession

From navigating challenges to interning at L'Oreal, Skyla’s experiences have shaped her passion for the marketing industry and her future career.

Skyla Isaacs always knew she had a creative streak, but it was her father’s career in advertising that lit the spark for her journey into marketing. Inspired by watching his ideas come to life, Skyla chose to pursue a Bachelor of Business with a major in Marketing at RMIT University.

“I feel fortunate to have discovered my passion early on, and throughout my degree, I’ve remained engaged and eager to learn more,” she shared.

Skyla’s time at RMIT wasn’t just about academic learning. She credits her personal and professional growth to educators like Meg Elkins and Federico Triolo, who deeply influenced her experience.

“Meg’s Business Graduate Folio course was pivotal in my journey,” she shares.

“I’ve experienced significant personal growth and worked to overcome my weaknesses.”

Federico’s classes on digital marketing and marketing’s impact on society also made a lasting impression, shaping how she views her future in the industry.

Although the pandemic initially limited her involvement in student activities, Skyla eventually found community within RMIT’s Snow Sports Club and the Student Advisory Board.

Beyond the campus, Skyla broadened her horizons by joining a short-term study program at Kansai University in Osaka, Japan.

"RMIT offered so many enriching opportunities, and my time in Japan was a highlight of my university experience," she recalls.

One of Skyla’s most defining experiences was her internship at L’Oreal, where she encountered an inspiring work environment filled with diverse individuals eager to share their insights.

It was through this experience that she developed essential skills like prioritization, presentation, and taking initiative—tools she’ll carry into her professional life.

As Skyla prepares to graduate, her excitement for the future is palpable. After completing her internship, she aims to secure a spot in a graduate program and continue expanding her knowledge in the field she’s passionate about. Her advice to future graduates reflects the wisdom she’s gained:

“Get involved in student clubs and case competitions from the start! There is no single path to success—stay focused on your goals, and you will achieve them, one way or another.”
