RMIT Students Among 2025 Westpac Scholars

RMIT Students Among 2025 Westpac Scholars

Nine RMIT students have been announced as 2025 Westpac Asian Exchange Scholars and Young Technologists.

RMIT’s recipients are among 71 inspiring scholars, who will share $1.1million from Westpac Scholars Trust to help shape the future through technology and deepening Australia’s ties with Asia.

The Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship offers Australian students an international experience to help develop their cross-cultural thinking and leadership skills, as well as access to networking opportunities with Australia-Asia thought leaders.

Asian Exchange scholars will gain firsthand experience in Asia’s top innovation hubs, building cross-cultural intelligence and expanding global networks.

Those awarded the Young Technologist scholarship will explore the potential of technology to drive positive change, from AI and coding to innovative product design.

More than financial support, this scholarship provides access to a bespoke leadership program, industry connections, and hands-on experiences to accelerate their impact.

Congratulations to all our recipients!

Student Thrives in Singapore Through Asian Exchange

Emma studied at the Fashion Design at Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore for five months, through the Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship.

She was motivated to apply after receiving an email from RMIT, sensing the chance to expand her understanding the world and join new communities.

It seemed like a fantastic opportunity to broaden my horizons and join a community of inspiring people to share my experiences with and receive support.

“The application process encouraged me to reflect on who I am and what matters most to my future.”

Facing challenges and setbacks, the Scholarship provided Emma with the resources to afford studying overseas.

“As a student facing income and disability challenges, the scholarship allowed me to afford studying in Singapore, especially since student accommodation wasn't available.”

Emma said arriving in Singapore alongside other scholarship recipients eased her transition and allowed her to comfortably adapt to the new environment.

“I spent significant time with local students,” she said.

“This immersion helped me form strong connections and gain a deep understanding of the Singaporean culture.”

Emma’s advice to students looking to embark on an overseas study journey is to be true to themselves.

“My advice to students wanting to study overseas is to be your authentic self,” she said.

“Push yourself to learn and experience as much as possible and seize every opportunity that comes your way.”
