You'll learn cyber security essentials, governance frameworks and best practices to ensure your business is secure and compliant. You'll also learn risk management strategies to mitigate digital risks.

This course is taught 100% online.
Teaching formats include lectures, workshops and student-led discussions and collaborative learning activities.
Your assessment will include written reports and presentations and reflect the complex challenges associated with the cyber security sector. These may be either research, problem or policy-based, and will provide you with experience in effectively researching, writing and presenting your findings to an audience. Your assessments will help develop your skills in communication, analysis and evaluation.
Feedback will be provided throughout the teaching period in online forums and through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation.
A digital badge will be awarded upon successful completion of this microcredential.

You will gain the foundational cyber security governance and digital risk management skills and knowledge that are highly sought after by industry.

Throughout this 12-week microcredential, you will be required to complete approximately 16 hours of online learning per week.
These hours will be completed through various synchronous (2 x 2-hour online lectures/workshops per week, 1 x 1-hour optional online student drop-in consultation) and asynchronous (self-directed) activities, including:

Completion of this microcredential will equip you with the knowledge and skills to protect government and businesses from increasingly complex modern threats.
The range of career opportunities is varied, including business advisory and strategic roles, cyber security governance and risk assessment roles.
Cyber security occupations have been identified to be in significant national shortage and with high future demand, according to Jobs and Skills Australia's Skills Priority List.
This shortage is echoed in ISC2's (International Information System Security Certification Consortium) Cybersecurity Workforce Study 2023, which states that in 2023 there were roughly 4 million cyber security professionals needed worldwide.

You need to satisfy all of the following academic (entry) requirements to be considered for entry into this microcredential.
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent), or higher level qualification, in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
If you do not meet the above entry requirement, you may be considered if you have a minimum of 5 years of full-time equivalent work experience. Applicants will be required to submit a curriculum vitae (CV).
There are no prerequisite subjects required for entry into this microcredential.
Upon successful completion of this microcredential you may be eligible for credit transfer for postgraduate business Masters programs at RMIT University.

This course is offered on a full-fee paying basis only. If you are offered a place, you will need to pay the full tuition costs of your course. However, eligible students (such as Australian citizens or holders of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa) may apply to defer payment of some or all of their tuition fees via the Commonwealth Government’s FEE-HELP loan scheme.

In addition to tuition fees, you will be charged an annual student services and amenities fee (SSAF), which is used to maintain and enhance services and amenities that improve your experience as an RMIT student.
The SSAF is calculated based on your enrolment load and the maximum fee for 2024 is $351.
You may also be required to purchase other items related to your course, including field trips, textbooks and equipment. These additional fees and expenses vary from course to course.
Eligible students (such as Australian citizens or holders of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa) may apply to defer payment of some or all of their tuition fees via the Commonwealth Government’s FEE-HELP loan scheme.
You may be eligible to apply to defer payment of the Student services and amenities fee (SSAF) through the SA-HELP loan scheme. If you use SA-HELP, the amount will be added to your accumulated HELP debt.
If your FEE-HELP and/or SA-HELP loan application is successful, the Australian Government will pay RMIT, on your behalf, up to 100% of your fees. This amount will become part of your accumulated HELP debt.
You only start repaying your accumulated HELP debt to the Australian Government once you earn above the minimum income threshold for repayment, which is set each year by the Australian Government (this also applies if you are still studying). The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will calculate your compulsory repayment for the year and include this on your income tax notice.
