Year 1 to 3: Eighteen (18) courses (216 credit points) from one of the following combinations:

Combination list:

Combination 1: Complete One (1) Major (96 credit points); a second Major (96 credit points); and 24 credit points of Science Option and/or University Elective courses;

OR

Combination 2: Complete One (1) Major (96 credit points); One (1) Advanced minor (48 credit points) related to your major; One (1) generalist minor (48 credit points); and 24 credit points of Science Option and/or University Elective courses.

OR

Combination 3: Complete One (1) Major (96 credit points); One (1) Advanced minor (48 credit points) related to your major; 48 credit points of courses chosen from more than one generalist minor; and 24 credit points of Science Option and/or University Elective courses;

Notes:

  • Students combining Biological Sciences and Biotechnology do so by following Combination 2 or 3 rather than Combination 1.
  • Students majoring in Food Science & Technology, Nutrition Science, Mathematics, or Statistics must follow Combination 1.
  • Students wanting to complete a double major in Food Science & Technology and Nutrition Science are advised to transfer to BP199 Bachelor of Food Technology & Nutrition.
  • Students majoring in Geospatial Science must follow Combination 2 or 3.
  • Students majoring in Physics must combine it with Mathematics as a second major (Combination 1) or as a generalist minor (Combination 2).

Definitions:

Science Option Courses include:

  1. In addition to below table, Science Option courses include any course listed in a Generalist Minor,
  2. MATH2196 and MATH2197 are available as Science Options only to students doing a double major involving Mathematics or Statistics (but not both). MATH2196 is a pre-requisite for MATH2197.

University Electives include any course on the University Electives website

Minors fall under two categories:

  1. Generalist Minors – 4 courses from a discipline different to your major.
  2. Advanced Minors – 4 courses from a discipline related to your major that extend your major studies.

Details of the minors are shown below.

Rules on completion of Majors/Minors:

  • A major is made up of 96 credit points, and a minor is composed of 48 credit points.
  • A course can only be counted once towards the completion of a major or a minor. You cannot use that same course again to count toward another major, minor or option list.
  • A maximum of Two (2) Minors can be completed in this program, and  only One (1) of these can be a Generalist minor.
