Writing and Publishing

RMIT Writing and Publishing participants for DISRUPT

Writing and Publishing at RMIT embeds industry in all its programs, with innovative on the job learning for students. The discipline is dedicated to the application and theory of writing, editing and publishing. Engagement with a range of cultural partners also provides a rich program of public projects and events.

Located in the heart of literary Melbourne, Writing and Publishing works with industry partners to offer fellowships and work integrated learning opportunities for creative writing, publishing and editing students. RMIT students move from in house publications and events to external festivals and job opportunities. RMIT offers degrees in Professional Writing and Editing, Creative Writing and Writing and Publishing, while Bowen Street Press (BSP) is an independent, student-led publishing house working out of RMIT’s city campus. BSP studios also partner with a number of resident industry partners including Rabbit Poetry Journal and The Garret Podcast.

During the Emerging Writers' Festival a cross-disciplinary team of RMIT students, writers, editors and designers collaborated to produce a dynamic daily newspaper, The Gazette. A 2019 partnered project between Melbourne Writers Festival and the Intercultural Collaborations studio as part of the Bachelor of Arts (Creative Writing), featured RMIT students performing alongside emerging literary voices from Singapore.
