Vice-President Strategy and Community Impact

Tom Bentley is the Vice-President Strategy and Community Impact, and Vice-Chancellor's Innovation Professor.

Tom Bentley's background is in public policy, working with institutions around the world since the 1990s to renew education, community and economic development by making them more inclusive and innovative. He has worked as Director of Demos, the UK think tank, adviser to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Gates Foundation, and as Deputy Chief of Staff to Julia Gillard from 2007-2013. He is the author of publications on democracy, inclusive innovation and education, accessible at www.tombentley.org.

As Vice-President Strategy and Community Impact, Tom leads a diverse 'team of teams', who use their expertise to advance RMIT's strategic goals by:

  • Shaping the social, political and educational landscape to build and grow partnerships aligned to RMIT's mission and vision.
  • Developing, driving and learning to implement RMIT’s 9-year strategy.
  • Engaging with governments to build new policy and system solutions across RMIT's international ecosystem.
  • Advancing location strategy and precinct partnerships, including the Melbourne City North Social Innovation Precinct.

PSI's diverse teams include Indigenous engagement, Asia Pacific economic partnership, health, justice, precincts, entrepreneurship and lifelong learning, together with strategy and public policy.
