RMIT welcomes around 1,000 students from regional areas each year. Some relocate to the city while others commute from our larger regional centres such as Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo. Our capable and motivated regional students bring a unique range of skills and experiences to university, and we offer specific scholarships and support to address their challenges in accessing tertiary study and work experience.
As part of our commitment to widening participation in higher education, we also partner with regional organisations to design and deliver outreach programs. Schools outreach programs help demystify university life and promote the value of university careers and degrees in areas of low university degree attainment.
Our Regional Student Action Plan guides all our work, including current priorities to re-imagine outreach for mature-age learners. We recognise that our hard-working mature-age regional learners need specific support, advice and flexible online courses to be able to meet their aspirations for university.
RMIT has partnered with Ovens Murray Country Universities Centre to help promote the value of university careers and degrees to regional and remote communities in northern Victoria, and with Goldfields LLEN to do the same in Bendigo and surrounds.
