International Intuitional Partners

Hong Kong Art School

The School of Art has international partnerships with various institutions. Our Hong Kong Art School partnership is our longest transnational co-educational partnership established in 1998, offering the Bachelor of Fine Arts program to HKAS students. In 2023 we celebrated our 25-year partnership with the exhibition Closer Together at RMIT Gallery, Melbourne and Pao Galleries, Hong Kong featuring the work of our alumni and staff.

East China Normal University

We’ve also partnered with East China Normal University School of Design on an International Pathways arrangement, allowing Masters of Design students to study for one year in Australia (1+1+1) and gain a second qualification in Fine Art, Photography and Arts Management. We collaborate with our international institutional partners to develop research symposiums that foster dialogue about issues impacting arts and creative pedagogy and to further strengthen our community.

International Campuses

RMIT University has campuses in Vietnam and Barcelona. We regularly engage our partners in research projects and engagement activities through our international campuses. Since 2020, School of Art researchers have been working on Here/There, an RMIT Melbourne and Vietnam research project focusing on the role of traditional crafts in the development of contemporary design. In 2023 RMIT staff led our first Global Intensive to Vietnam, partnering with local staff for the course and visiting the Saigon South campus. We’ve been engaged with RMIT Europe to extend our networks and develop projects to engage European audiences with our creative projects.

Global Intensives

The School of Art offers global intensives to our undergraduate and postgraduate students, short courses which run intensively for 2-3 weeks, usually outside of the semester period. Previous intensives have been to New York, Nepal, Berlin & Arles, Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam and China. These courses are often developed with our institutional and arts and cultural industry partners. Scholarships for study may be available and will be advertised with each course.

International Student Exchanges

The School of Art students have the opportunity to engage in student exchanges with our partner universities. Exchanges are managed by the Global Experience Office, with many official university partners signed up to the program. Students in the past have exchanged to LaSalle College of the Arts, Singapore, The Chicago Arts Institute, USA and the Hong Kong Art School, Hong Kong.

Cotutelle (joint PhD programs) and Collaborative PhD programs

The School of Art has developed Cotutelle (joint PhD programs) and Collaborative PhD programs with our partnering universities to build our capacity in the international PhD research context. International PhD candidates are supervised by teams from RMIT and the partner institutes, enriching the PhD through a cross-cultural context.

International Artists in Residence and Visiting Artists

We host international artist and scholar residents, who are often aligned with our disciplines or studio areas. Over the past few years, we have hosted art teaching residents from HBK Braunschweig, Germany, such as artist Wolfgang Ellenreider who have contributed to our Honours program and developed new art works on campus leading to an exhibition Blanko

Global Internships

The Global Experience Office (GEO) also offers internships in the summer and winter breaks, mostly in Asia and around different subjects. Scholarships are also available, subject to specific conditions, enquire with the GEO.
