RMIT UP English

All applications must be submitted with an English proficiency test result, unless the student has studied at an institution where English is the medium of instruction.

When English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) programs are required for entry into a program, the number of weeks of ELICOS study is determined by RMIT (based on IELTS, TOEFL score) and/or RMIT UP based on a placement test.

If the student does not have proof of English proficiency, they must undertake the RMIT UP online English placement test.  The test ensures that the student is offered the correct duration of English study.

RMIT UP will provide test details when a student books a placement test.

  • The test takes approximately 60 minutes.
  • It is an online English placement test that students can take from home at any time.
  • The test requires a computer and webcam.

All online RMIT UP English Placement Test bookings (onshore and offshore students) can be submitted directly to RMIT UP through the online RMIT UP English Placement Test booking form

Once a test booking has been made, the candidate will receive important information about the test, and instructions on how to log in via the candidate’s personal email address, so they can access the test and receive their results.

The following will be required to secure a booking:

  • Completed RMIT UP English Placement Test booking form.
  • Candidate’s personal email address for further communication.

The test results are only valid for English for Academic Purposes (EAP); it cannot be used to gain direct entry into an RMIT formal program.

Test candidates are permitted to re-sit the RMIT UP Placement test after a minimum of 4 weeks (maximum of 3 times per 12 months). Please note that a re-sit could affect the recommended starting level and number of EAP weeks required.

Prior to sitting an online RMIT UP English Placement Test, students are required to watch a pre-recorded welcome session.
