The Australian Film Institute Research Collection (AFIRC) celebrates the unique history of Australian cinema. Your donation will preserve and provide easy access to the film and television production-related documents that have built our nation’s film industry.

RMIT has served as custodian of the AFI Research Collection for twenty years now. Since 2002 we have curated and added contemporary and archival materials to this world-class research resource.

RMIT is the perfect host for this collection, especially given the university’s reputation as the premier institution for students wanting to study film in all its forms.

You can make a difference to the conservation and digitisation of these rare cultural assets by donating to ensure essential access for students and academics well into the future.

Of all RMIT’s Cultural Collections, the AFIRC is the most in-demand. Outside of pandemic-related lockdowns, the collection is typically accessed by over 900 students and researchers annually, and during lockdowns the need to access these treasures grew even more.

Digitisation is really important for so many reasons, especially because we’re a teaching and learning organisation within RMIT, and we need to be able to have our collections easily accessible by all students, not just those on campus.
