PANDA(Personalized Add-on Acupuncture service at the Northern Emergency Department for Acute Pain)是一项对急诊科的急性疼痛患者进行个性化针灸治疗的临床项目。

Acupuncture research at RMIT University strongly focuses on evidence-based medicine, combined with the philosophical and cultural aspects of traditional Chinese medicine. In the most recent Excellent Research Australia (ERA) ranking, RMIT received “well above world standard” for research in Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and Clinical Sciences. The team has published over 400 peer-reviewed journal articles over the last 20 years. Northern Health (NH), located in the north of Melbourne, has the largest Emergency Department in Victoria, treating over 110,000 patients each year. RMIT and the Northern Hospital have collaborated for over 20 years.

Personalised Acupuncture in the Northern Hospital emergency Department for Acute pain (PANDA), a collaborative project between RMIT and the Northern Hospital, aims at addressing the significant needs for non-drug therapies to combat acute pain. Approximately one-in-three to one-in-two people presenting in the Emergency Department experience some form of pain.

The PANDA project is based on strong national and international evidence supporting the use of acupuncture, patient demand and positive support of Australian doctors and nurses for including acupuncture in hospitals.

The PANDA project aims to find the best way to seamlessly integrate acupuncture, performed by registered acupuncturists, into the busy emergency environment. This history-making project will provide a framework for including acupuncture in Australian hospitals more broadly.
