Collectively her postdoctoral studies have informed recovery; clinical and exercise guidelines following cardiac surgery and have led to a paradigm shift from restrictive sternal precautions to an active patient participatory rehabilitation model that targets secondary prevention and better patient outcomes. Her research has attracted awards for best research at national (ACRA, CSANZ) and international levels (EACTS, APTA).
Doa also co-designed a certified education program on Ultrasound Imaging for Physiotherapists, Medical Practitioners and Nurses at the University of Melbourne. Her research interests include: cardiac surgery, exercise and cardiac rehabilitation, ultrasound imaging; innovations in sternal closure, postoperative recovery, and differential diagnosis of chest pain.
