Energy conversion and storage

RMIT has a well-established research and translation record in solar energy conversion into electricity, heat and electricity, along with new and novel methods to up-convert energy into more useful forms. Along with energy conversion, RMIT is working with industry partners to store the renewable energy cheaply, efficiently and safely.

Projects

An electrified residential thermal system using heat pumps and thermal storage

This project develops a locally manufactured heat pump thermal system that will supply a building’s entire thermal demand from one central unit.

Aqueous metal ion battery: next-generation energy storage solution

Aqueous metal ion batteries, exemplified by zinc-ion batteries, leverage zinc ions as charge carriers in an aqueous electrolyte solution.

This project aims to recycle waste thermal and mechanical energy inside electrochemical devices via integration of active materials.
