Fee information

Fees payable for your research degree will depend on whether you are an international or domestic candidate.

If you are required to pay fees, you will be liable for every semester that you are enrolled until you submit for examination. If you have an approved leave of absence for a whole semester, you will not be liable for fees for that semester.

Domestic candidates

Most Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens will be part of the Commonwealth Government Research Training Program (RTP) in which your tuition costs are funded by the Australian government.

International candidates within Australia

Fee information for international candidates based at RMIT's Melbourne campuses can be found in International fees and scholarships.

International candidates outside of Australia

Fee information for international candidates based outside Australia can be found on the Fees for international offshore study webpage.

Other fees

The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) is used to maintain and enhance services and amenities that improve your experience as an RMIT student. Domestic Higher Degree by Research students commencing in 2021 or later are charged SSAF. In addition to the SSAF, there may be other expenses associated with your program.

Scholarships and grants

There are several scholarships and grants for which you may be eligible to support you during your candidature.
