Students rise to the Global Leader Experience

Students rise to the Global Leader Experience

Over 160 students took part in the program to develop their leadership skills and connect with leading businesses in Melbourne.

Across a two-day program held over the mid-semester break, over 160 RMIT students visited leading businesses, researched global issues, created a solution and presented their findings to industry experts. Students were split into diverse teams and collaborated across disciplines and cultures to develop a solution to the challenge: “How can we ensure that Melbourne continues to be innovative, sustainable and inclusive?"

To deepen their their understanding of the challenge and test their ideas, students visisted and engaged with organisations across Melbourne including Deloitte, Queen Victoria Market, Victorian Pride Centre, Cognizant, Orable and Homes Victoria.

I loved my team so much! I’m really grateful I attended this event, or I would not have met all these amazing people. I can see how everything I have learned in the past two days will assist me. Overall, it was worth it!

After collating their ideas the teams worked together to create their pitch and present their solution to a panel of experts from RMIT, Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria (ECCV), Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network and more.

With such a diverse group of students from 27 countries, each participant shared different perspectives and ideas while they worked together to create a solution.

"[I joined the program] to meet people who were also in the same boat as me; just moved to Melbourne, studying at RMIT and wanting to learn more about themselves," said Bachelor of Arts student Mara.

I was a bit scared to join the program. It definitely pushes you and your boundaries, but it's comforting in the sense that there are other people you can find similarities with who are also out of their comfort zone.

Students who joined this program have developed a range of skills that they are able to showcase using 4 RMIT Creds, while also gaining an understanding of the changes they can create in their community.
