“I can’t recommend anywhere else!” — Why RMIT is number one for students

Architecture and Design students share why RMIT is the nation’s number one institution for design and creative fields.

RMIT University has once again proven its excellence in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, securing the top spot in Australia for design and creative fields and demonstrating its global impact.

RMIT's Architecture/Built Environment and Art and Design subjects have delivered strong results, ranking number #1 in Australia and in the top 20 globally.

Three students share their insight into why these fields have performed so well.

Christine O’Neill – Master of Architecture

After travelling and being inspired by European art and design, Master of Architecture student Christine O’Neill knew RMIT was her first choice of university, as it aligned with her educational values.

“RMIT offer a unique body of design studios who are taught by the most inspiring leaders in the industry with a wealth of knowledge," she said.

"The design studios I've chosen have allowed me to explore the more speculative side of architecture."

Christine is currently gaining industry experience while completing her master's program and has contributed to research with the Tectonic Formations Lab.

Her long-term goal is to become a registered architect and further develop her computational design skills.

“I would absolutely recommend studying architecture at RMIT. As a mature age student, I have found myself having a great support network from my tutors and peers as well as a wealth of resources,” she said.

Jimin Park – Digital Design

Jimin, an independent artist with experience in 3D design and music, said her course has helped give her clear goals for the future.

“Digital Media has been an excellent course for exploring different realms of digital design to pinpoint the direction I would like to follow in my career,” she said.

“It’s been a pleasure to get to know similar-minded creative individuals and share our inspirations together.”

Jimin said that while she’s enjoyed learning specific skills throughout her degree, her course has also given her a chance to push herself.

“It has helped equip me with various skills, including creative thinking processes, software-specific skills, and soft skills such as effective communication with the team,” she said.

“I enjoy challenging myself with ambitious projects to continuously learn and improve.”

If you're seeking a safe and supportive space to challenge yourself with your creativity, I can't recommend anywhere else!

Shirin Kilinc - Bachelor of Architecture

Shirin is a third year Bachelor of Architecture student who says it's RMIT's culture which sets it apart.

"What I love most about studying Architecture at RMIT is the culture," she said.

"The supportive culture allows for a tight knit and collaborative community of professionals here at RMIT Architecture, both in the teaching departments and amongst students."

Shirin said she's been inspired by the quality of teaching at RMIT.

"Teaching at RMIT architecture is at a high level in ensuring students can be equipped with the most relevant skills," she said.

"It is so inspiring being surrounded by professionals that practice and have the time to immerse students in their process."
