RMIT has once again won the Most Outstanding University Sports Program at the 2023 UniSport Australia Annual Awards held in Canberra.
The award recognises a successful university sport program, project or campaign relating to university sport strategies, events or on campus sport activities.
RMIT's Sports Media Program took out the prize, tying with Monash University, in recognition of its contribution to the UniSport landscape.
This is the second consecutive year that an RMIT program has received the accolade, with the RMIT Sports Academy winning last years' award.
The Sports Media Program serves as a hub where annually over 30 students gain experience in journalism, broadcasting, commentary, photography, videography, and social media marketing.
The program participants follow the journeys of the sports academy, national rep teams, elite athletes and recreational sports clubs to showcase the spectacular sporting moments and authentic stories from the Redback community.
RMIT's Digital Engagement Officer, Michael Serpell, who led the media team at the 2023 UniSport Nationals, said the program was key for amplifying student voice.
"One of the key achievements of the Sports Media Program is how it successfully amplifies student athlete voices during UniSport Nationals," he said.
"The program has ensured Redbacks athletes have a platform to express themselves whilst gaining one-on-one media training to tell their most authentic stories."
