Documents required to apply

For your application, you will need to include:

Academic transcripts, also known as mark sheets or graduation certificates or academic awards (if applicable), from all qualifications, including completed and incompleted, must be included with all applications. 

These must:

If you do not have the results of your most recent studies, you must provide evidence of your enrolment (for example, an enrolment letter or statement) and include the start and expected completion date of the course on your application form. 

Graduation certificates (official awards) from all completed courses must be included with all applications, in both the original language and English, if applicable.

They must state:

  • the full title of qualification
  • date of completion
  • name of graduate printed on the official paper/letterhead of the institution.

Evidence of meeting RMIT's English language requirements must be included with all applications.

If you do not have a valid English language proficiency test result, you can still submit your application and provide the results later.

RMIT recognises a range of English Proficiency tests and qualifications. For more information on our recognised tests, visit English requirements.

The following documents may be applicable to your application. 
 
  • Copy of your passport or identification documents (if available).
  • English translations of all documents.
  • Visa documentation if you have been granted or refused a visa to Australia or other countries. You can attach a copy of your visa granted letter, a sticker in their passport or a visa refusal/cancellation letter from Australia or other countries.
  • Syllabus or course outline if you are applying for credit (RMIT students will not be required to provide this) that includes: 
    • volume of learning: contact hours per week and total number of teaching weeks
    • learning objectives/outcomes (skills, knowledge and application) 
    • course content and weekly topics 
    • assessment types and their weightings 
    • reference to the learning resources such as prescribed textbooks and recommended readings.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV), also called a resume or statement of activity (if you have a study gap of more than 12 months).
  • Personal statement.
  • References from employers.
  • Letter from scholarship provider.
  • Documentation relating to selection tasks, also known as selection requirements (if applicable). Some courses require additional tasks such as pre-selection kits or folios.
  • Research proposal with two research supervisors' names and list of prior research publications (for Master by research and PhD program applications only).
  • Genuine Student Statement of purpose.

Please note that submitted documents will not be returned.

Documents required to accept your offer

To accept your offer and receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for your student visa application, you must submit certified copies of the following documents for an eCoE to be issued:

  • photo page of your­­ passport
  • photo page of the passport of any family member who is attached to your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
  • any other outstanding documents listed on your offer letter.

If you do not have these documents, you can still accept your offer and submit the outstanding documents when available.

Outstanding documents

To complete your acceptance, you must submit any outstanding documents outlined in your offer letter. These may include:

  • Academic transcripts 
  • Evidence of English language level
  • Graduation certificates
  • Other documents (if applicable) as outlined above.

How to submit your documents

You must provide certified copies of your original hard copy documents to receive a full offer. A certified copy is one that has been verified to be a true copy by a witness after they have sighted the original.

Applicants with an agent

You must provide your documents to your education agent who will be able to sight the originals and upload the certified copies to the Application Portal

Direct applicants (with no agent)

To start your application, certified copies of documents are not required. You can submit photocopies or scanned copies for an initial assessment.

If you are issued a conditional offer, you will then be required to provide certified copies of the relevant documents to meet the condition(s) of your offer and/or receive a full offer. You can submit documents using one of the following methods.

Methods to submit your documents

Upload online (recommended)

You can upload required documents (up to 20MB) via the Application Portal. When uploading your documents, if the document name appears under the 'My Document List' heading in the Application Portal, it has successfully uploaded. 

Please note: Digital academic statements must be verified using the methods outlined in order to meet the conditions of your offer and/or receive a full offer.

Certified hard copies

If you prefer not to upload, you can submit certified hard copies by:

  • Mail to:
    RMIT University, GPO Box 2476, Melbourne, VIC 3001, Australia
  • Courier to:
    RMIT University Building 106, 222 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, Victoria 3000, Australia
  • Or in person at: Study@RMIT.
Digital academic statements (for online submission)

Verified digital academic statements or mark sheets must be submitted through accepted platforms or emailed directly from the issuing institution, not through the Application Portal.

We may accept documents from official verified sources such as IB Diploma on a case-by-case basis.

  • For tertiary studies completed in Australia or New Zealand: share your documents with RMIT via My eQuals.
  • For tertiary studies completed in China: share your verified academic documents through the Centre for Student Services and Development (CSSD), delivered to RMIT online via My eQuals. Required verification reports include: China Higher Education Qualification Certification Report, China Higher Education Student’s Academic Transcript Verification Report, and China Higher Education Degree Certificate Report.
  • If your documents will be sent directly from the issuing institution: ensure they are emailed to your unique applicant email address (outlined in the instructions below), so they are received correctly.
How your institution can email digital academic statements

Step 1: Find your Application ID

  • Your Application ID is a 7-digit number (e.g. 1234567).
  • You can find it in the Application Portal or in any email you've received from RMIT after submitting your application.

Step 2: Use your applicant email address

  • Your unique email address is formatted as:
    app-[Application ID]@admissions.rmit.edu.au
    (for example, app-1234567@admissions.rmit.edu.au).
  • Provide this email address to your institution so they can send your documents directly to RMIT. 

Please note that submitted documents will not be returned.

Certified documents

The person certifying the photocopy must sight the original document and include the following details on all pages:

  • stamp or write: "This is a true copy of the document sighted by me"
  • sign, date and provide contact details including name and telephone number
  • the official stamp or seal of their organisation or their profession and organisation name.

RMIT will accept photocopies certified by anyone who is currently employed as:

  • an authorised RMIT staff member or representative
  • an RMIT-authorised education agent
  • an authorised officer such as a school principal or academic registrar, from the institution that originally issued the documents
  • an Australian Justice of the Peace
  • an Australian overseas diplomatic mission or any Australian Education International
  • an Australian accountant (they must be a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, or the National Institute of Accountants, or the Association of Taxation and Management Accountants or Registered Tax Agents).
  • an Australian bank manager, but not a manager of a bank travel centre
  • an Australian barrister, solicitor or patent attorney
  • an Australian credit union branch manager
  • an Australian commissioner for declarations
  • an Australian medical practitioner (doctor)
  • an Australian police officer in charge of a police station, or of the rank of sergeant and above
  • an Australian postal manager
  • an Australian pharmacist
  • an Australian principal of an Australian secondary college, high school or primary school.

Notarised Documents may be required for some students applying from China only.

You will be advised if we require notarised copies of any documents.
