China Scholarship Council – RMIT Joint Funding Program

The China Scholarship Council – RMIT Joint Funding Program is only available to citizens of the People’s Republic of China wishing to study a PhD at RMIT University in the STEM College.

Value and duration

Successful applications will receive:

  • A joint tuition fee scholarship from RMIT and a top-up living allowance scholarship, China Scholarship Council (CSC) Living Allowance that includes Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), one time return international airfare and visa application fees.
  • Total stipend amount: AU$35,886 (2025 Research Training Program stipend rate may vary year on year subject to indexation).

How to apply

There is a two-stage application process.

Stage 1: Apply to RMIT

Submit an application to RMIT University. Only STEM programs are currently available to CSC applicants. Please note that this is a two-stage application process, consisting of an Expression of Interest (EOI) followed by a full application. We recommend applying early, as processing times typically range from 8 to 12 weeks.  Indicate that you have applied for, or plan to apply for, a China Scholarship Council scholarship.

Stage 2: Apply to the CSC

Once you have received an offer from RMIT University, you will need to apply separately to the CSC. You should follow the CSC guidelines and apply online for the living allowance scholarship. RMIT’s offer will need to be included with the CSC application.

When will I know the outcome?

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) usually notifies applicants of the outcome of living allowance scholarship applications at the end of May for commencement no later than the 31 December in the following year.
