Tech and Trades Experience Day 2025

Get hands on with the tech and tools of the future at RMIT's Tech and Trades Experience Day in July.

Join us at the Tech and Trades Experience Day, where you'll get a glimpse of your future as a uni student before you decide what's right for you.  

Experience what it's like to get hands on at RMIT with a practical taste of our tech and trades courses. The day includes:

  • In-person workshops led by RMIT teachers, featuring the tools and facilities our students use.
  • A chance to chat with your future teachers and current students, and ask questions.about studying at RMIT.
  • Catered lunch and morning tea, with options to suit all dietary requirements for all attendees.
  • The chance to win prizes along the way.  

If you’re a parent or guardian, this is also a great chance to connect with staff and industry guests to learn about the opportunities at RMIT and how you can support your teen as they consider what their future holds. 

Friends, family, parents and guardians are welcome – but places are limited, so please ensure all attendees are registered to avoid missing out.

Workshops

We've got lots of workshops on offer, with everything from cyber security to water conservation!

Explore the options below and choose up to two of your favourites. Workshop spots are limited, so register early to secure your place. If you're interested in a workshop that's already full, you can join our waiting list to be notified if any spots become available closer to the day.

What does measuring land involve, and why is it so important? You’ll find out in this surveying workshop, where you’ll get hands on with mapping instruments and techniques used in the field, including laser scanners. 

Get a glimpse into the science of environmental conservation. In this lab workshop, you’ll focus on water testing using industry-grade equipment and practices.  

Challenges on a construction site are solved with strong leadership and communication skills – and that’s exactly what construction and project managers aim to do. You’ll learn more about this career path and even get a taste of problem-solving in this workshop.  

Did you know design is crucial to civil engineering? In this workshop, you’ll learn how to use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create 3D design models.  

Design, build, and launch rockets using soft drink bottles in this workshop. You'll get an entertaining peek into the world of aerodynamics and aircraft design, and solving problems with physics.  

Whose car will be the fastest? This workshop is all about testing and physics. You’ll learn how different designs and materials affect mechanical movement and performance.  

Sensors are a part of our everyday life – and in this workshop, you’ll get to build your own. You’ll explore basic coding, circuit design principles and assembling electronics. 

What makes a realistic phishing attack? You’ll create one in this workshop, and get a live demonstration on how to defend your systems against one.  

Discover what it takes to build a tiny home in a workshop that’ll leave a huge impression. You'll explore the fundamentals of designing a sustainable tiny house and the building 

Copper is a key material in the trade of refrigeration and air conditioning. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to handle it safely while reading plans and taking accurate measurements for your project.  

Get on the tools of the plumbing trade. In this workshop, you’ll use levelling equipment and basic assembly techniques to explore how simple pipe systems are built. 

Learn to design and build an electrical circuit that powers devices and systems in this workshop. You'll get to practice using hand tools and get an up-close look at design in electrotechnology.
