Our student Remedial clinics and Myotherapy Clinics offer services to the public.

Clinics are operated by students studying the Diploma of Remedial Massage and Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy. They are supervised by qualified, industry current therapists always.

Our student clinics are an educational environment for the purposes of student development and on-the-job learning as our priority of focus.

During your visit, you are required to comply with assessment processes conducted by the student therapist within your one-hour booking time to support the student learning experience.

All members of the public are welcome. All attendees must be fully vaccinated.

Please be advised that the procedures within our student clinics have changed and all new and existing clients will be required to comply with new processes.

  • If you are a new client or you have attended the clinic over six (6) months prior, you will be asked to complete a New Client History Form.
  • Therapists are rostered on a rotational basis.
  • Clients can request a preferred gender, but this cannot be guaranteed.
  • The supervising teacher will enter the cubicle at least once to check on the therapist and so treatment may be disrupted.
  • Students are being assessed during every clinic session. This may impact slightly on the flow of your assessment and treatment.
  • Please ensure you have showered prior to any treatment if you exercise beforehand
  • Underwear must be worn at all times.
  • Sexual harassment, verbal abuse or denigration of a therapist will not be tolerated.
  • Clients affected by drugs or alcohol will not be treated.
  • Clinic Supervisors, RMIT staff, RMIT students and all clients attending the RMIT Remedial Massage and Myotherapy Teaching Clinic.

Treatments

Please note that we are not able to provide Pregnancy Massage as a service.

Remedial Massage Treatment

Students will continue to build upon their Soft Tissue Massage skills and techniques by learning assessment knowledge by body region. A treatment will include subjective assessment questions, Global Posture assessment, body region active/passive/resistive range of movement and Special Tests. From this information they will then put together a Client consented, and Supervisor approved treatment plan. The treatment itself could include those techniques used in the Soft Tissue Treatment as well as assisted stretching techniques, cupping, thermotherapy, triggerpoint therapy, and myofascial tension technique. This service is available from Semester Two and Semester Three students of the Diploma of Remedial Massage

Myotherapy Treatment

The aim of a Myotherapy treatment is to assess, treat and manage injuries, pain and dysfunction. Within a Myotherapy treatment, students will apply a range of techniques which could include myofascial dry needling, cupping, corrective exercises rehabilitation, massage techniques and joint mobilisation (not to be confused with joint manipulation). The student clinicians will contextualise subjective and objective information into clinical reasoning and problem solving to produce a client consented and Supervisor approved treatment plan.
