Become an Industry Sponsor

Engage in a fast-paced innovation sprint that sees multidisciplinary teams of students working on a real-life cyber security challenge faced by your organisation.

RMIT's Cyber Ready Cloud Innovation Centre provides a platform for industry and students to come together and innovate for the future of cyber resilience.

We are delivering the next generation of cyber security, cloud infrastructure resilience and readiness education.

Find out everything you need to know about participating in our Innovation Challenges as an Industry Sponsor.

Why become a CIC Innovation Challenge Sponsor?

Work with the RMIT's top student talent and gain a fresh perspective on your organisation's cyber-related challenge.

The CIC approach uses the leading AWS "Working Backwards" methodology to help students gain a deeper understanding of your challenge statement and propose a solution prototype to this problem.

Students have access to AWS services, and work alongside AWS Solutions Architects to hone their technical skills and propose ideas that combine innovative thinking with leading-edge technologies.

  • Engage directly with the next generation of graduate talent
  • Be exposed to AWS's innovation approach and leading-edge tech stack
  • Shape the future careers of students interested in cyber
  • Work with one of Australia's top universities

Over the course of the CIC Innovation Challenge, multidisciplinary student teams work with AWS experts across areas of innovation, design and technology to co-create solutions to real-world problems related to cyber security.

Hybrid (online and in-person) interactive workshops are delivered by the AWS and RMIT teams, teaching students to work backwards from the customer, identify different customer personas, develop a press release for their product and then go on to develop a prototype using different AWS technologies and services to demonstrate at a Final Showcase event.

The CIC Innovation Challenge takes students to the prototype stage of their proposed solution. At the end of the challenge, each student team will present their work to the Industry Sponsor. This might include the following artefacts:

  • Press Release and FAQs document for the proposed solution
  • Visuals showing how the customer would interact with the solution
  • Architecture diagram for the prototype
  • Code for the prototype
  • Demo video showing the prototype in action

Prototypes are published as open source, so that people and organisations across the world can learn from CIC collaborations.

If you are interested in building out a student team's idea further, you can pursue this within your own organisation using the open source assets, or discuss other options with the RMIT CIC team.

As an Industry Sponsor, the time commitment is minimal yet engaging. You will be asked to provide the following support:

  • Present a 1-hour pitch session to the student cohort
  • Attend two 3-hour 'Working Backwards' workshops (optional, strongly encouraged)
  • Attend two 1-hour Industry Review sessions to provide feedback to students on their projects
  • Attend the Final Showcase, a 3-hour long event to witness the product of all the students' hard work across the challenge!
Working with these students over the last few months has been a great experience. It was fantastic to watch them work on such a real and significant issue.
