About

Mark has over 20 years experience working in the University sector in teaching, research, management, governance and academic development roles. This has included positons as Associate Dean, Head of School, Director Centre of Learning and Teaching, Program Manager, Chair Academic Boards, Associate Director Learning Futures, and Senior Manager Quality Enhancement.

 

Mark is a Fulbright Professional Scholar for his practice-based research into serious games, and an International Specialised Skills Institute Fellow in the field of digital design. He has undertaken educational design projects developing and streamlining processes and systems and implemented innovative applications of new technologies. His research activity emphasises transformative educational practice and focuses on how technology can play a significant role in building teacher capabilities. Mark is a TEQSA registered Expert, been a judge for the Simulation Australia Serious Games Awards and presented at conferences nationally and internationally including a number of keynote addresses.

 

Mark also has an extensive creative practice in the fields of film, interactive design and games development. Most recently this has included video works for Aqua Loci, a pavilion in the Wrong Biennale. He has also exhibited works at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the London Film Festival, the Melbourne Film Festival and been involved in numerous community based projects. He designed and developed the White Card Game which has been deployed internationally for immersive training in the construction sector and which won Bronze in the IMS Global Learning Impact Awards.

 

Mark has have over 15 years teaching experience in the tertiary education sector at vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Mark's teaching experience includes roles in the community sector, with private training organisations, and delivering workshops to professionals. He has designed and delivered extensive teacher professional learning workshops nationally and internationally. Mark has extensive curriculum design experience and has been responsible for the design, development and quality assurance of courses, programs and institutional education strategies.

 

Prior to his career in education Mark was a hospital scientist and researcher in cytogenetics and molecular biology.
