About

Dr Timothy (Tim) O’Shannassy is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Management at RMIT University. His teaching and research interests include strategic management, corporate governance, managing business operations, and entrepreneurship. He has served three terms in MBA Director roles, seven years as RMIT Ford Motor Company Program Manager, and nine years on Academic Board during his 26 year tenure at RMIT. Tim served six years on the Graduate School of Business and Law Executive from 2019 to 2024. In 2024 Tim received the RMIT 25 Years Service Award.

Tim received his PhD in strategic management from Monash University in 2005. Tim served as Associate Editor of Journal of Management & Organization (Cambridge Publishing, SciMago Q1)) from 2012 to 2024 receiving the Associate Editor Excellence Award in 2018. He currently serves on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Management & Organization, Australian Journal of Management (Sage Publishing, SciMago Q1), and Journal of Strategy and Management (Emerald Publishing, SciMago Q1). Tim has published five refereed book chapters, 23 journal articles, and 18 refereed conference papers published in proceedings. His well cited research appears in a range of outlets including Journal of Business Research (ABDC "A"), Journal of Strategic Marketing (ABDC "A"), Frontiers in Public Policy (SciMago Q1), Journal of Strategy and Management, Journal of Management & Organization, and Research in Ethical Issues in Organizations.  

 

Tim has presented his Research & Innovation and Learning & Teaching work at major international conferences including Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society and British Academy of Management. He is a three-time winner of the Outstanding Reviewer Award at the prestigious Strategic Management Society Conference and has numerous internal and external research grants to his credit.

 

Tim teaches Creating Business Strategies and Managing Business Operations in the Executive MBA, Strategy in the MBA, and the MBA programs elective Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation. Tim has a particular professional interest in Harvard Business School Case Study teaching methods and is the Editor-in-Chief of the RMIT University strategic management case study series. Case studies published include ANZ Banking Group Limited, National Australia Bank, Ryanair Group, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and more, He is co-author of the text book Strategic Management: The Challenge of Creating Value 3rd Edition (Routledge Publishing), and an author in the edited book Management Through Collaboration: Teaming in a Networked World (Routledge Publishing). In 2023 Tim received the RMIT College of Business and Law Learning & Teaching "Enabling" Award, and in 2024 as Executive MBA Director led the successful European Foundation for Management Development Program Accreditation project receiving the Dean's Certificate of Recognition.

In terms of social impact Tim has volunteered as President of Dendy Park Tennis Club since 2011 and played a key role in the planning, negotiation and funding of the $6.5 million club venue rebuild project with Tennis Australia and Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club.  Tim was made a Life Member of Dendy Park Tennis Club in 2020 for playing and volunteer achievements.
