Professor Xue has worked in the higher education sector and the health industry in many countries since 1987.
An experienced executive leader with a demonstrated history of successful working in large and complex organisations such as universities, the World Health Organisation and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency. Skilled in higher education management, curriculum design, health regulation, cultural inclusion and diversity, intercultural communication, coaching, research design, program evaluation, clinical research and lecturing. Strong healthcare services professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) focused on Evidence-Based Medicine (RMIT). In 2019, Professor Xue completed the Advanced Management Leadership Programme at the Said Business School (The University of Oxford).
Distinguished Professor Charlie C. Xue commenced his current role as Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor (International) in January 2021.
From 2011-2021, he successfully led the transformation of the School of Health Sciences (Head of School, 2011-2015) then RMIT Health and Biomedical Sciences (Executive Dean, 2016-2020). His strategic and executive leadership has resulted in significant growth of RMIT’s reputation in health and biomedical education, biomedical and clinical research and strategic industry partnerships.
Professor Xue contributes to the strategic direction setting of the STEM College as a member of the College Executive. He works collaboratively with other members of the College Executive for the planning and development of academic programs, cross-disciplinary research and business development/commercial activities. Prof Xue is also Chair of the University’s Cultural Inclusion Working Group which promotes diversity and inclusion in our academic community.
Over the last decade, Prof Xue has contributed to the RMIT University’s Academic Board, Academic Promotion Review Panels and the Athena SWAN Committee to address the gender equality in the academic workforce.

Research interests
Professor Xue's main research interests are evidence-based medicine and translational research with a focus on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM, acupuncture and herbal medicine) for chronic respiratory diseases and pain management. His team consists of six postdoctoral fellows and a number of PhD candidates. He has established extensive research networks nationally and internationally. Professor Xue’s research has been supported by grants from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Research Council, Federal and State Government Grants, and international research collaboration grants.
