Global Communication Skills - International Education Professionals is the first of a series of online professional development courses from RMIT UP, helping international staff in the education sector enhance their intercultural skills.

Created specifically for international education professionals, this course has been designed to help participants communicate more confidently and effectively in English in an international education workplace.

About the course

The Global Communication Skills - International Education Professionals course is made up of five 12-hour units, each focusing on different skills. You can enrol in as many units as you like in any order, or undertake the complete 60-hour program.

Course-takers will receive a certificate of completion for each completed unit.

Unit 1: Clever Communications

In unit two, Clever Communications, you will develop your skills in:

  • structuring professional emails
  • using the right tone in an email
  • exchanging information over the phone
  • dealing successfully with difficult phone calls

Unit 2: The Pitch

In unit one, The Pitch, you will:

  • participate in online meetings
  • present information and ideas effectively online or face-to-face
  • recount and summarise
  • information present and request information in writing

Unit 3: Getting Together

In unit 3 Getting Together, you will develop your skills in:

 

  • use small talk to make connections
  • participate fully in discussions and meetings with clients and colleagues
  • clarifying information they give and receive
  • participate in and chair meetings 

 

Unit 4: Navigating Differences

In unit four, Navigating Differences, you will learn about:

 

  • recognising cross-cultural differences in business
  • dealing with conflict situations more confidently
  • influencing peers and clients
  • using strategies and techniques to negotiate successfully

 

Unit 5: Student Readiness

In unit five, Student Readiness, you will develop skills in:

  • helping students prepare for selection interviews
  • analysing and writing selection tasks
  • understanding the challenges of new learning environments
  • preparing students for life and study in Melbourne

Global Communication Skills – International Education Professionals has been designed for upper intermediate to advanced English speakers who work in the international education sector, or consultants and staff who work with English speaking universities.

Each unit contains 4 topics, and each topic contains 3 sessions. The sessions are 1 hour in duration, and the topics are designed to be taken in order.

The Global Communication Skills - International Education Professionals course is made up of five 12-hour units. The duration of the complete five course program is 60 hours.

Each individual unit costs AU$395.
