The Operate elevated work platforms up to 11 metres skill set has been designed to support construction workers in the safe and effective operation of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical elevated work platforms (EWPs).
It applies to construction work on residential and commercial work sites in new construction, renovation or refurbishment, and maintenance projects.
As part of this skill set, you will learn to operare specific types of EWPs safely and effectively in different locations, including on uneven terrain. You will learn how to locate, set up, operate and shut down scissor lifts and self-propelled boom lifts with a boom length of under 11 metres.

This skill set is delivered over two days in-person at the RMIT Bundoora campus.
Please note: this course is not available for international students intending to study on a student visa. If you are holding a temporary visa (other than a student visa) and your visa has a full study entitlement, you may be eligible to apply. You will learn both theoretical and practical skills applicable to this skill set.
Your theory work will be completed upfront, ensuring you are aware of the safety requirements and considerations of working on elevated work platforms including use of harnesses. This will be facilitated face-to-face in a classroom environment or computer lab.
From here, you will be given the opportunity to practice using all equipment, using both boom and scissor lifts to complete your assessments. These practical lessons will be held at the Bundoora campus.
Both employers and the Victorian State Government have requested this qualification as part of the Big Build Project.
As such, this skill set is an added bonus for people seeking employment in the building and construction industry, mining sectors, and all industries where working safely at heights is required.
