Reasons to Get Your Student Card Today

When you become a university student, there are lots of things to organise, especially when you’re new to Australia. Some tasks are easy, some are more difficult, but only one task gives you a big reward... Getting your student card!

At RMIT, your student card is your proof of identity, and it gives you access to the buildings you need to come to, and to our Wi-Fi network.

But did you know, when you have a student card, you can also get a number of discounts and experiences in the city of Melbourne?

Here are 12 more reasons to get your student card today.

Reason 1

As an RMIT Training student, your RMIT student card gives you access to our Student Hub at Building 108 in Bourke Street. You can use the space to study, chill out, charge your devices, meet up with friends or enjoy free tea and coffee.

In the Study Hub you can also connect with our Student Experience team, who organise social events and activities and are here to help you with wellbeing or academic support.

From the Bourke Street campus, you can also explore one of Melbourne’s most famous shopping precincts, the bustling Bourke Street Mall. You can walk through from Myer or David Jones to the Emporium and Melbourne Central – a great trick to know on a rainy day!

Reason 2

Students can access a range of discounts at Melbourne’s Museums, including the Melbourne Museum, Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, IMAX Melbourne, Scienceworks, the Melbourne Planetarium, the Immigration Museum and the Royal Exhibition Building.

General admission to the Melbourne Museum is totally free for students! The Melbourne Museum is open daily from 9am – 5pm, and features a range of interesting exhibitions, activities, talks and tours at all times of the year.

The area out the front of the Museum is a great place to soak up Melbourne’s vibes and watch the local skateboarders!

Reason 3

While you’re at the Melbourne Museum, why not check out IMAX Melbourne? IMAX Melbourne has the world’s largest cinema screen, at 23 metres high and 32 metres wide, and you can get student discounts and educational pricing.

Reason 4

Tickets to the Melbourne Zoo are also discounted for students, and are great value for animal lovers if you sign up for an annual membership.

Reason 5

Another fantastic public space that you can access as a student is the State Library. You can settle into the beauty of this quiet, comfortable building, access free Wi-Fi and of course books, journals and information.

There is a student membership option that gives you access to speaking and networking events, extended meeting room access and more.

Reason 6

Did you know that as an RMIT student, you can get a dental student pack? Metro Dental has an offer for RMIT students for a $200 student package, that includes a check-up, clean and X-rays.

Reason 7

Speaking of RMIT, with your RMIT student card you can sign up for an RMIT student campus tour  to explore the many iconic RMIT University buildings and teaching and learning spaces right in the heart of Melbourne.

Reason 8

In Australia, Apple stores offer student discounts or “educational pricing” on their products available to current and newly accepted university students, parents buying for university students, and teachers and staff.

Reason 9

A pizza chain with yummy (and very cheap!) pizza, Domino’s Pizza, offers a generous student discount of 33% off Premium and Traditional Pizzas when you sign up to their student membership program

Speaking of yummy food, a burger chain called Grill’d, which is really popular with students here in Melbourne, offers a free drink for students on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Join their reward program to access this discount.

Reason 10

If you’re a keen gym-goer, Urban Athletic offers RMIT students 50% off basic gym and group fitness classes.

Reason 11

Nearby, Melbourne City Baths also offers student discounted memberships.

Reason 12

If you love to shop online, Australian online shopping store The Iconic offers 10% off full priced styles for students all year. You just need to sign up and verify your student status to join.

In fact, you can find many more student discounts on food, clothing, technology, fitness and more using the websites UniDays  and Student Edge. Sign up to both websites using your student card, and you’ll find discounts for just about anything you need!

So, what is the one thing that can help you access all these fantastic offers and experiences? It’s your RMIT student card! Make sure you take this important step and get the most out of your life as a university student.
