Professor Asha Rao

Staff elected Council member
1 November 2024 – 31 October 2027

Asha is a Professor of Mathematics and Cyber Security.  She started at RMIT in 1992, as a casual tutor and worked her way through the ranks to serve as Associate Dean of the Mathematical Sciences discipline from 2017 - 2023. She was also the first female Director (Interim) of the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute, a joint venture partnership of 14 Australian Universities.

She conducts research in cyber-mathematics with the aim of better securing cyber space. Her research ranges from designing better codes for communication, to detecting money laundering and describing human interactions in the physical and cyber spaces.  In 2021, she was inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of women in the Trail Blazer category.

Please join me in congratulating Ella and Asha on their appointment.  Their terms commence on the 1 November, although we hope they will be able to attend the October Strategy day as observers.
