Rochelle is a Behavioural Economics PhD student who researches promises and trust.
Rochelle is a Behavioural Economics PhD student with the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing. She has completed her Bachelor in Commerce and a Master of Business Administration from India. She also has had corporate experience of two years with the Bank of New York Mellon as a Financial Analyst. Rochelle has always been keen on decoding the mysteries of the mind and understanding human irrational decisions which was influenced by her research during her Masters on Sequential Discounting - Individuals Preference for Sequence of Improving Incomes and Declining Payments.
Currently Rochelle’s area of research is promises and trust. There is a wide range of literature that tells us how people use promises in different ways to imbibe trust among others. Rochelle is keen to go further and understand a fairly new concept called half promises. Here, using trust games we study how trust and promise keeping is influenced when one makes a half promise. Another similar area of interest would be to see if religion and promises are interlinked to one another and if being moral or religious directly affects us to keep our promises more than others.
RMIT has always been Rochelle’s only choice from the wide range of universities available, due to its Behavioural Business Lab. The Behavioural Business Lab has the widest range of academics specialising across various fields of psychology, economics and experiments, which is ideal for Rochelle’s research. PhD being a long journey where one needs to have good rapport and work environment with supervisors, Rochelle chose RMIT to maximize her impact from the best in the field. Rochelle is also the recipient of the RMIT Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship of 2017.
Eventually Rochelle would like to go into academia and help inspire and motivate students into the areas of behavioural and experimental economics.
