Education and training

The RMIT School of Media and Communication provides students with information integrity education, including courses in fact checking and verification to build resilience against misinformation. The Information Integrity Hub also offers training for industry, government and community-based organisations in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. For example, we help journalists and professional communicators understand how to use digital tools and resources to verify information. We directly engage with undergraduate and postgraduate journalism and communication students to teach them critical thinking skills to combat misinformation.

Learning resources

Our learning resources empower students, professionals and communities to be critical media consumers and producers. We will continue to expand this list of resources.

Looking for an internship?

Employers are increasingly seeking graduates who can confidently distinguish between fact and fiction in online content. Our fact-checking unit, RMIT Lookout, welcomes internship applications from university students who are interested in acquiring skills and experience in combating misinformation.

Testimonials

Ewa Staszewska

“I enjoyed the research throughout my internship and found it satisfying to debunk a popular claim during COVID-19. I tried to absorb as much as I could from the very thorough and friendly team. Finessing the skill of identifying and verifying misinformation has served me well in my journalism career.”

Nic Zoumboulis

“I felt privileged to have veteran journalists guide me through the rigorous fact-checking process. It was incredibly rewarding to see my fact check published and contribute to combating misinformation.”
