Dr Huacheng Zhang is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and an Associate Professor in Chemical and Environmental Engineering at RMIT University. She received her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in July 2014. Then she worked as an assistant professor at TIPCAS, a postdoctoral research fellow, and an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Monash University. Since joining RMIT in July 2020, she has received the 2020 RMIT Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellowship, the 2020 ARC Future Fellowship, the 2021 RMIT VC Award for Research Excellence-ECR, the 2022 MSA Membrane Science Award, the 2023 J&J WiSTEM2D Scholars Award, and the 2024 NHMRC Investigator Grant (Emerging Leadership 2).
Dr Zhang currently leads a research group at RMIT and focuses on bioinspired sub-nanofluidic membranes for efficient separation, controlled release, biosensing, energy harvesting, and stimuli-responsive ion adsorbents for water desalination and ion extraction. She has published 70+ journal papers, including Nat. Mater., Sci. Adv., Nat. Sustain., Nat. Commun., Adv. Mater., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., etc. Her work has received 7000+ citations with an H-index of 42.
