Society 5.0 Ethics: A Festival of Ideas

On 17-18 June 2024, RMIT and Utrecht University hosted "Society 5.0 Ethics: A Festival of Ideas", featuring distinguished academics and fostering discussions on ethical technology innovation.

This is the first in a series of global events aimed at shaping the ethical landscape of future technologies with a focus on human-centered societal concerns. This successful event was opened by RMIT Chancellor Peggy O'Neal AO.

The event featured keynote talks from distinguished academics from across Australia and the globe, including:

  • Professor Payal Arora, Utrecht University
  • Laureate Professor Sarah Pink, Monash University
  • Professor Rachel A. Ankeny, Wageningen University & Research
  • Professor Lisa Given, RMIT University
  • Professor Annette Markham, Utrecht University
  • Associate Professor Julia Powles, University of Western Australia

Their insights and discussions fostered an engaging environment with interactive activities. As an RMIT Engaging for Impact initiative, the event attracted academics, industry leaders, corporate professionals, and students.

This event was an essential step towards creating ethical guidelines and best practices for technology innovation that prioritises people, leaving a lasting impact on all participants. Our goal is to continue shaping the ethical landscape of future technologies, ensuring that societal concerns and human-centered values remain at the forefront. The University of Utrecht will host the next conference in the Netherlands in 2025, allowing us to continue this important conversation.
