These Foundation Skills are a combination of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) and employability skills.

Assessment in a competency-based course is about being able to demonstrate that you have developed these practical skills and areas of knowledge, and that you can perform at the standard required in the job. This could involve:
Feedback from work supervisors and others in the workplace can be used as evidence for assessment of competence, and on request, an RMIT University assessor may visit your workplace to observe and assess your work practice and competence.
The types of classes you have will depend on the course you’re studying. Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers and provide for access and use of spaces where learning can be applied and active, including an array of specialised equipment.
Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.
At RMIT, we ensure that the Work Instructor Skill Set is responsive to current industry needs through an Industry Advisory Committee.
This committee represents a broad cross section of the training industry and advises on training and assessment, ensuring that the skill set produces graduates who have the skills needed in the field.
