A new data asset to support greater understanding of the Victorian disability workforce

A linked-data analysis of the Victorian disability workforce using PLIDA to explore characteristics and trends between 2010/11 and 2021/22

WIDI was commissioned by the Victorian Disability Worker Commission to bring together existing data to map the Victorian disability workforce and provide the Commission with a data asset that provides a valuable tool to estimate the size, characteristics, and type of work of the disability workforce.

The project built on WIDI and VDWC’s 2021 project, ‘Research on professional standards for disability services’ where WIDI was commissioned to develop a workforce typology and professional standards framework for all disability workers in Victoria.

The data asset, developed in Power BI, supports the Commission’s policy, registration, complaints, and communications teams to understand, plan, and engage the workforce; enabling the commission to improve safeguards, and workforce quality and standards to reduce violence and neglect of people with disability.
