Victorian family violence workforce project

Group of women in a business meeting

Evidence-based growth and development for the family violence workforce in Victoria

This project offered Government and the sector a deeper understanding of the structure and functions of the existing workforce and included recommendations to address current and future challenges. The project drew on extensive consultations with the specialist family violence and sexual assault workforces and collaborated with a range of key partners including Safe and Equal, No to Violence (NTV), Sexual Assault Services Victoria, the Australian Services Union (ASU) and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.

A broad suite of evidence-based resources and materials were developed to support ongoing growth and development including:

  • a Knowledge and Literature Review articulating the existing literature and capturing practice knowledge from consultations with the Victorian family violence and sexual assault sectors
  • a Specialist Family Violence Job Family Taxonomy which maps job roles, job groups, and job families
  • a Specialist Family Violence Core Functions Framework which articulates the core functions required to deliver specialist family violence services now and into the future
  • Position Descriptions, Selection and Assessment Templates, and a Question Bank to support effective and efficient recruitment processes within the sector.
  • a Conceptual Framework and Tools for a Workforce Supply Forecast Model based on an analytic stock and flow model
  • a Future Directions Report providing suggestions to Government and the sector on how to further progress the work of developing, supporting and growing the Victorian specialist family violence workforce.
