Quality teaching for community languages schools: Evidence-based development of a teacher training program

This study aims to research the needs of Victorian community schoolteachers for the development of quality, evidence-based teacher training courses.

Description

This study aims to research the needs of Victorian community schoolteachers for the development of quality, evidence-based teacher training courses.

The research question is: How can university courses best support quality teaching for community languages schools in Victoria through teacher training in the context of the Community Languages Schools Quality Assurance Framework?

This research is not evaluative of schools' performance; rather, we aim to better support community schoolteachers and facilitate greater teacher empowerment, commitment and development for optimal student learning outcomes.

This research has three consecutive aims:

  1. Identify explicit areas of teacher needs for professional development in relation to the eight dimensions in the Quality Assurance Framework.
  2. Develop a teacher training program that directly speaks to the identified teacher needs. The training program will be blended, with face to face and online learning modules. Online learning materials will be designed.
  3. Pilot, evaluate and improve the teacher training program.
