Dr Brendan Barrett

Dr Brendan Barrett has spent the greater part of his professional career working with the UN implementing an extensive range of educational and communication projects, including founding the bi-lingual Our World magazine.


Brendan is a professor in the Center for Global Initiatives at Osaka University, Japan. He teaches and conducts research on ethical cities, climate change, science communication, and documentary production. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce (UK).

Brendan has spent the majority of his professional career in Japan, working with the United Nations and in academia. He has coordinated a wide range of innovative educational and communication projects, including the Global Virtual University, UNU Opencourseware, Our World (an online bilingual magazine), two MOOCs, and several award-winning documentaries.
