The online MBA is a part-time intensive degree, designed for those who want to cultivate the in-demand skills that will help them lead the future of business.

The fundamental business subjects – Design Thinking for Business, Leadership and Management, Marketing for Managers, and Financial Analytics for Managerial Decisions are generally completed at the beginning of your journey and play an important role in laying the foundations of your studies. 

Design thinking is at the core of RMIT’s MBA. From the beginning of your degree, you’ll be introduced to this discipline and encouraged to apply design thinking methodologies throughout your study. The core subject and following concentration group of subjects will transform the way you think about problem-solving, and give you the confidence to attack complex business problems in new and creative ways.

Other concentrations include progressive and industry relevant areas of study: Technology and Innovation Leadership and Project Management. Core subjects such as Business Research Design and Business Consulting complement these electives, helping to sharpen your capabilities in real business settings.

You’ll graduate with a strong understanding of business, an entirely new perspective, and skills that you can immediately apply in professional environments, now and in the future.

The Master of Business Administration delivers a convenient online degree without the requirement for on-campus attendance and commitments. 

The 100% online, accelerated degree means your learning – and graduation – is fast-tracked and focused. You can enrol in any one of our six, seven-week teaching periods each year, allowing you to complete your MBA studying part-time in just over two and a half years.

You can view online resources and learning activities, access course materials via Canvas, collaborate with lecturers and fellow students, and access your student email account anywhere, anytime.

Our online learning platform is purpose-built and brings authenticity to your learning experience, available using your laptop, tablet or smartphone. Coursework is delivered in an engaging way and easy to follow.

You will also have access to discussion boards, online forums, electronic assignment submission, the library and business journals.

Assessment is ongoing throughout the teaching period and includes essays, reports, presentations, case studies, quizzes and research projects. 

MBA Advisory Board

Our MBA is supported by a strong advisory board that helps steer curriculum development to ensure that RMIT MBA graduates are work-ready and prepared to take up challenging positions within the rapidly changing landscape of business management.

The Program Advisory Board is made up of members from Capgemini, KPMG, Spotless, BMW, Ethical Investment Services, Greencap, and from boutique consultancy firms such as Advantage Point Business Advisors.

You’ll find our MBA graduates working and leading in professional, commercial, industrial, not-for-profit, NGO public administration and start-up organisations. They perform a wide range of roles, including organisational strategy and innovation, management consultancy, international development coordination, and advice and operations management.

Entry requirements and admissions

You need to satisfy all of the following entry requirements to be considered for entry into this degree.

12 course Master of Business Administration 

  •  An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent), or higher-level qualification, in a business or related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 1.0 (out of 4.0)*

    OR

  • An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent), or higher level qualification in a business or related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution and a GMAT overall minimum score of 550*.

    OR

  • An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent), or higher-level qualification, from a recognised tertiary institution in any discipline with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 1.0 (out of 4.0)* plus a minimum of two years relevant work experience. 

    OR

We offer Recognition of Prior Learning, or the recognition of previous study or learning. This means you can apply for credit and reduce the number of courses you need to complete. Your application will be decided on a case-by-case basis. RMIT aims to grant as much credit as possible at the time of offer, so it’s important to provide as much evidence of prior study or work experience as possible with your application. Speak to our Enrolment Advisors to find out more.

If you do not meet the entry requirements for the 12 course masters, you may have the opportunity to enrol in a 16 course masters.

To study this course you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

  • IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 6.5 (with no individual band below 6.0)
  • TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 79 (with minimum of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 58 (with no communication band less than 50)
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): minimum of 176 with no less than 169 in any component.

If you have successfully completed one of the following qualifications* with a major in a business or related discipline, or an unrelated discipline with two years relevant work experience, you may be eligible for advanced standing as follows:

Credit and recognition of prior learning (RPL)

Applicants with relevant work experience in management and leadership may also be eligible for a further reduced duration in the form of RPL of up to 48 credit points at the time of offer (equivalent to one semester full time study).

This may enable you to complete your program in one year or less.

Credit and exemptions will be assessed consistent with the principles of the RMIT Credit Policy.

Upon successful completion of this program, you may be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University, including postgraduate research programs, subject to program entry requirements.
