I have a unique academic background with a BA in Philosophy and MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from University of Florida, and a PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from University of Melbourne (top 10 program globally).
I've lived and worked in 7 countries (USA, Australia, Japan, Korea, China, Belgium, Spain), and enjoy tackling new projects with diverse groups.
Besides my academic research (see below), I'm passionate about innovation, entrepreneurship, and science communication. In fact, I'm the only person ever to go in Shark Tank Australia and receive offers from all 5 sharks. On that note I've spun out multiple companies around the world and have multiple products on the market directly from my research.
I currently teach Entrepreneurship for Researchers, a mandatory course for all STEM PhD students at RMIT. I also help develop internal programs for Entrepreneurship training for academics.
My research lies at the intersection of nanomaterials and living things. This means I develop new materials and new coatings while studying their influence on biological systems like cells, animals, plants, and people.
This core research in nanomedicine, agriculture, and synthetic biology has resulted in real-world impact.
Besides my core scientific research, I also conduct research in innovation and entrepreneurial frameworks focusing on how deep tech research can be commercialized and translated into real-world impact reproducibly.
