Shrinivas Kulkarni

I am Shrini, a PhD candidate in the School of Engineering at RMIT University.

I have a Masters degree in Manufacturing Management from Birla Institute of Technology & Science (Pilani, India) and a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Gogte Institute of Technology (Karnatak University, Belgaum, India). I’m keenly interested in additive manufacturing technology and its applications, which has led to my PhD research. Prior to this, I worked as an Engineering Manager in a product-based engineering company and in various other roles in international industry. In my personal time, I love to do nature photography.

PhD project

Prior work

  1. 2013 – Masters' dissertation: ‘Improvement of machining processes to achieve reduction in manufacturing cost through cycle time reduction and quality improvement for rotary compressor components’. The aim was to improve the machining cycle, quality, and tool life to reduce the lifetime part cost. The historical condition of the part at the machining centre is recorded and new ideas and processes to improve its effectiveness were discussed with subject matter experts to derive solutions to improve part quality.
  2. Notable professional work experience
    a. 2011 to 2017 – Engineering Manager, Hoerbiger India Pvt. Ltd. Global responsibility for activities like new product development and serial production and application engineering of screw compressor valves.
    b. 2006 to 2011 – Project Lead, Neilsoft Ltd. Global project management and onsite worked for customers including 3M USA, Roplan Sweden, and Husky Canada.
