About

Vipul is currently Associate professor of Supply Chain and Logistics Management at School of Accounting, Information and Supply Chain Management. Previously he was Associate professor at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, where he made notable contributions as Undergraduate Programme Director, PhD programme Director and Research Director for the School of Management. In these roles, he provided both strategic and academic guidance, shaping the direction of Undergraduate programs, Doctoral programs and contributing to the development of research strategies and policies within the School of Management.

 

Vipul’s international experience is notable, working as a visiting professor at Center for Business in Society at Coventry University and also as a Consultant and Researcher at INRIA (French Institute for research in Computer Science and Control) Nancy, Grand Est, Nancy, FRANCE. At INRIA, he was involved in a £ 2 million European Union funded FP6, I*PROMS (Intelligent Production Machine and Systems) network of excellence, leading the international project “Global Logistics and long supply chain Management facing EU industries”. He also worked as Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India.  His academic leadership also includes Programme Director of the Master of Technology in Industrial Engineering at IIT Delhi and his vision led to development of Modelling and Analysis of Supply Chain (MASC) research lab to foster consultancy projects with academic-industry-government engagements.

 

RESEARCH EXPERTISE

Vipul is a globally recognized and widely cited researcher in the field of Supply Chain Management. Since last 20+ years, Vipul’s research has focused on investigating design and modeling issues for dynamic business operations that take the form of a virtual enterprise, a supply chain, and a value chain. His research focus has been on developing a common body of inter-disciplinary knowledge to seek answers to questions, which span across the fields of Supply Chain Management, Sustainability and Circular Economy, Innovation and ICT. He is also interested in Business Analytics as an emerging synthesis of sophisticated methodology and large data/digital systems/Industry 4.0 used to guide managerial decision making in an increasingly complex sustainable supply chain business environment. 

 

Vipul disseminate new knowledge in an appropriate manner through peer reviewed publications. He has published 145 peer reviewed publications (90 journal papers, 38 conference papers, 8 book chapters, 2 books and 6 edited books by Springer). His h index is around 40, citations around 6000 plus, almost 500 citations every year.

TEACHING EXPERTISE 

Vipul has an excellent design and delivery of teaching and taught over 25 diverse courses in the area of Operations Management, Supply Chain Management and Logistics, Decision Sciences at Undergraduate, Masters and Doctorate levels at various universities of global repute. His teaching philosophy is founded on the belief that learning is an active and involved process. He incorporates innovative elements into teaching by integrating research-led and case study assessments to enhance students’ experiences. He provides a learning environment which is engaging, dynamic, interactive, supported by case-based learning, problem-solving & outcome-based learning to increase student’s experience in his courses. Vipul has also contributed immensely to graduate studies through developing new courses, teaching graduate courses and/or supervising students’ theses and providing pastoral supports to students. Vipul has supervised 10 PhD students (6 alone supervision and 4 jointly), 20 Masters, 1 Honours and 24 undergraduates (Bachelor of Engineering) students to completion since 2009.

 

He has been actively involved in conducting Management Development Programmes/Training Programmes for Senior Managers and Executives of Public and Private Organizations like JCB, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation of India, KPIT Cummins, IBM etc. He also received research funding as PI from the Department of Science and Technology, Office of Principal Investigator, Government of India and sponsored consultancy projects from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. His involvement in international conferences leadership & training programs underscores his dedication to knowledge dissemination & capacity building beyond the academic society.

 

Beyond academia, his role also extends as an expert in supply chain management for the College of Assessors, Ministry for Business Innovation and Enterprise in New Zealand. Additionally, he also serves as a research fellow for the New Zealand India Research Institute and is member of the Australian New Zealand academy of Management (ANZAM). He is also a member of the Wellington advocate network, made up of Wellington's industry leaders and top academics. He was also the Co-Chair for the Australia New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) 2023 conference at Wellington.

Vipul have developed strong international networks and relationships which have resulted in joint publications, exchange of ideas. AWARDS AND FELLOWSHIPS

• Benchmarking, an International Journal- Literati Award Winner 2024 for the outstanding paper entitled " Can organization team culture benchmark effective teams – performance management concerns, insights and HR implications”

• Management of Environmental Quality - Literati Award Winner 2020 for the outstanding paper entitled "Sustainable supply chain management: A review of literature and implications for future research".

• Advanced career researcher award of excellence in supply chain management, April/2019 was awarded at the International Conference on intelligent computing application in interdisciplinary studies (IC2AIS'19) held at School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University organized by Research forum for applied Science, Technology and Management, India

• Amity Global Academic Excellence Award, May/2018. This award is given to selected academicians and administrators of extraordinary eminence, who are driving the notable academic Institutions of the world to greater heights through their expert guidance, keen involvement and strategic approach.

• Ranked7th in India in a list of top 20 Indian leading academicians in the area of Logistics and Supply Chain management in an important study entitled “Analysis of the Logistics Research in India – White Paper" conducted by researchers from Institute of Transport Logistics, TU Dort[1]mund University, Dortmund, Germany, Institute for Supply Chain and Network Management, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Darmstadt, Germany; Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlan[1]gen-Nürnberg, Erlangen, Germany and University of Münster, Münster, Germany.

• Received IIT Delhi Outstanding Young Faculty Fellowship by Kusuma Trust from 2011-2013. The fellowship amount was INR10,000 per month for 3 years (equivalent to NZD 225 per month)

• Received the IBM India research Lab student travel grant award to present paper in the 16th POMS conference, Chicago, April 29- May 02, 2005, USA.
