PhD Scholarship in Social Science - Social Equity Research Centre, Homelessness and Housing Insecuriy research theme

PhD scholarhip in homelessness research. This project will focus on women's experiences of homelessness, refuges and family violence. The mixed-method project also includes a 12 week paid internship at Good Shepherd.

PhD scholarhip with internship is available for a high calibre applicant. This will be a mixed-method project focused on women's homelessness, family violence and refuges. The successful applicant will be able to shape the project within these parameters 

$34,841 per annum. Potential to apply for AHURI top-up scholarship in addition to this.

Candidate must be eligible for a PhD place in Australia. 

To be considered for the PhD Scholarship, applicants must meet the Eligibility criteria and English requirements as described on the How to Apply page, and should ideally meet the selection criteria below: 

  • Have completed a minor thesis (Honours or Masters) in a related field such as Social science, Policy, Social work, Youth Work
  • Hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as sociology, social science, psychology, criminology, social work, youth work, epidemiology
  • Trained in both qualitative and quantitative methods is desirable. Preference will be given to quantitative training, however qualitative researchers are still able to apply. 
  • Open to receiving ongoing feedback and commitment to developing new skills and ways of thinking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate with policy makers, victim-survivors, stakeholders
  • Previous demonstrated experience conducting quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods research with humans on health or social topics (please describe what kinds of research you have experience with, what roles you played in these projects, and analysis techniques, approaches and software you have used)
  • People with living or lived experience of homelessness and/or family violence are encouraged to apply.
  • People who have worked in this sector are encouraged to apply. 
  • Indigenous people are encouraged to apply.
