PhD Scholarship in Plastic Waste Recycling

Be a part of the plastic waste recycling team that works to support our industry’s transition to the circular economy while contributing to GHG emission reduction by turning wastes into a valuable resource.

In addition to the Industry PhD Program Scholarship of $34,000 pa (GST exempt, indexed annually at 3%), there is an industry top-up component valued at $12,000 pa (not indexed). As such, the successful candidate will receive a stipend of $46,000 pa. 

$46,000 pa for a maximum duration of 4 years.

To be eligible:

(i) be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen;

(ii) Meet RMIT University PhD admission requirements;

(iii) Meet university English language requirements;

(iv) Possess the relevant skills (see below on Essential and Desired skills);

(v) Have not previously completed a PhD;

(vi) Be able to commence the program in the year of the offer; 

(vii) Enrol as a full-time PhD student;

(viii) Be prepared to be located at the project location(s).

Essential skills

  • An H1 or H2A bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline area or equivalent accreditation and standing, with a primary study area in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Degree and/or knowledge of core chemical engineering disciplines such as reaction engineering, kinetic and process simulation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-solving experience in an applied engineering environment.

Desired skills

  • Excellent mathematical and programming skills, including experience creating effective code in Python, R and Matlab.
  • Knowledge of chemistry and polymer science.
  • Problem solving skills/experience in applied chemistry, mechanical or electrical engineering.
