Candidates must meet minimum PhD entry requirements, including an Honours Bachelor's degree (4 years) with a Distinction (70%) average in the final year, including a research thesis comprising at least 25% of a full-time academic year, or a Master's degree with Distinction (70%) average, including a research thesis component (25% of a full-time academic year). Applicants must also fully meet English language proficiency requirements without exceptions (IELTS or equivalent). Experience or interest in multilingual NLP, AI ethics, or culturally inclusive AI safety is strongly encouraged.
Interested candidates should submit their CV, academic transcripts, and a brief research proposal (max 2 pages) outlining their background and experience relevant to NLP and culturally inclusive AI safety for LLMs.
The project focuses on developing multilingual datasets and advanced methods to detect and mitigate social and legal norm violations in large language models (LLMs). Candidates should have an interest or experience in culturally inclusive AI safety, multilingual NLP, AI ethics, or computational social sciences, and must hold a relevant degree with strong skills in programming and machine learning.
